Capacity Planning Analyst
The Capacity Planning Analyst is responsible for organizing, interpreting, and analyzing capacity issues, studies, and projects to develop analytical decision support models as related to capital investment to expand railroad capacity. Responsibilities include strategic planning, demand planning, forecasting, and modeling network resources (locomotives, crews, trains) using various analytical and planning tools. The Capacity Planning Analyst has a major time commitment to detailed analytics, communication, and analysis of train operations.
Manages the capacity planning and modeling effort for both KCSR and KCSM.
Manages the creation and presentation of KCS' business analysis models illustrating the rail network plan for the 3-5 year planning horizon.
Responsible for development of forecast models for key resources (including track infrastructure, trains, locomotives, and crews) based on forward looking volume projections provided by Sales & Marketing.
Responsible for identification of benefit provided by capacity projects.
Responsible for coordinating operating teams to prioritize capacity projects based on benefit to the network.
Act as the liaison between Sales & Marketing and Operations to understand capacity needs over 3-5 year planning horizon.
Responsible for development of statistical models to facilitate data based decision-making.
Bachelor's degree from four-year College or University in Engineering, Math, Business, or related quantitative discipline
MBA or Master's degree in Engineering, Math, Business, or related quantitative field
5 years’ experience in analytics
2 years railroad experience
5 years’ experience with the use of statistics to address business opportunities
5 years’ experience with the use of forecasting techniques to develop planning schedules/models
Ability to interpret both technical and non-technical conversations and documents
Excellent written and verbal communication skills
Bilingual in Spanish/English
