Manager Inventory Accounting
POSITION SUMMARY: Responsible for the monthly accounting cycle for inventory in the US and supervision of the staff in MX responsible for inventory accounting. Conducts day-to-day research, analysis and processing ofaccounting transactions for inventory. Interfaces with Operations and IT to ensure proper accounting of inventory from the SAP MM module and the SMV interface in MX. US inventory balance approximately $90M; MX balance approximately $30M. This position will travel to Mexico at least once a quarter.
Bachelor’s degree in Accounting
5 years of accounting experience and solid understanding of financial statements and generally accepted accounting principles (GAAP)
1 year supervisory experience preferred
SAP experience preferred
Process improvement experience preferred
Inventory accounting experience preferred
Strong attention to detail and sense of urgency and ability to meet deadline-oriented tasks
Strong interpersonal and relationship building skills to lead direct and/or matrix environment teams andthat works with others at all levels in other departments
Ability to make a decision related to materiality and understanding of when to raise a concern
Self starter, and have the ability to adjust readily to multiple demands and shifting priorities
Strong oral and written communication skills required; English/Spanish bilingual is preferred.
Strong computer skills, specifically MS Excel, and MS Office Suite.
Bilingual in Spanish a plus
Responsible for accounting for all inventory transactions. Includes coordinating with internal customers to ensure that the appropriate amounts are charged to projects or expensed to ensure proper financial statement reporting. Record monthly accruals, intercompany inventory transactions, 2nd hand inventory and inventory sales entries.
Interface with Material Logistics to record results of monthly physical inventories.
Evaluate adequacy of inventory obsolescence reserve and make recommendations for changes as necessary.
Prepare US and consolidated reports and supervise preparation of MX reports for internal Accounting needs, external regulatory and STB reporting and Tax.
Perform US inventory account reconciliations and resolve identified issues including clearing “suspense” accounts. Supervise the account reconciliation process for MX.
Analyzes processes for best practice and the effectiveness of SOX key controls for both US and MX.
Provide coaching, feedback, and development support for direct report in MX. Also responsible for hiring and performance review of direct report.
Identify, recommend, and implement process improvements as necessary.
Supports day-to-day support to internal customers (Material Logistics, Engineering, etc.) internal/external auditors, and other departments as necessary.
