Sr Manager Mechanical Maintenance
POSITION SUMMARY: This position directs locomotive maintenance and repair has overall responsibility for managing mechanical operations related to repairing and service locomotives within the service track and back shop across the assigned territory. Additionally, this position ensures that proper safety requirements are being met and are in compliance with OSHA, AAR and FRA requirements.
This position directs and plans locomotive maintenance and repair and assures safety while providing needed quality assurance to all repairs. Number one responsibility is to analyze, develop and incorporate standardized maintenance practices and increase fleet reliability through proven quality methods. This position manages workflow planning and is the technical expert and responsible for analytics.
High school diploma required
Bachelor degree preferred (Mechanical Engineering)
Minimum of 5 years managerial experience
10 years of related or supervisory experience preferred
Heavy diesel and locomotive experience preferred
Strong knowledge of diesel engines and some experience in trouble shooting of electrical problems and reading wiring schematics and engine & drive train diagrams.
Knowledge of FRA, OSHA and AAR rules
Basic computer skills
Strong problem solving and analytical skills including process improvement and ability to influence and recommend decisions and present recommendations

Strong interpersonal and mentoring skills; excellent verbal and written communication skills.
Oversees daily shop flow, and scheduled and non-scheduled maintenance.
Maintain relationships with Transportation, MLU and help desk to identify potential problems and determine feasible solutions to meet TSP requirements.
Ensures facility maintenance and cleanliness.
Plan, forecast, and execute logistics requirements to achieve efficient production results.
Plans repairs and calibration of shop equipment and tools.
Coordinate training of employees.
Supervise managers and union employees to keep FRA violations to a minimum.
Promote safety protocol for workers and attend safety meetings.
Maintain locomotives to prevent unnecessary delays.
Review daily Manager Action Plans and adjusts as needed.
Responsible for end-to-end troubleshooting of all aspects of a locomotive.
Provides scheduled maintenance plans to increase reliability of the KCS fleets.
Oversees technical documentation and ensures up to date information is available.
Stays abreast of FRA regulations and ensures company compliance.
Meets production targets in an efficient and safe manner.
Manages SLAs between Inbound/Outbound train yard.
Improves freight car operations and locomotive availability.
Deals with mainline derailments.
Maintain tool accountability and enforce work order and inspection packet procedures.
Maintains yard locomotives.
Fill in for General Manager when not available.
Back up for Director Service Track Operations and Director Shop Operations.
Analyzes employees and trains accordingly.
Ensures locations have adequate material and equipment.
Sits on AAR committees to represent KCS.
