Assistant Roadmaster (Production)
POSITION SUMMARY:This position is responsible for providing the proper supervision, inspection, administration, and application of all engineering policies, procedures, and services related to the installation and maintenance of track, track components and related equipment over the entire KCS system. The position requires extensive travel of KCS lines.
High School diploma or equivalent required. Some college preferred.
8+ years of railroad industry experience
3+ years of railroad track experience
Ability to travel up to 100% of the time
Strong planning/scheduling capabilities
Working knowledge of Microsoft Office as well as other computer applications
Strong knowledge of federal, state, and local laws governing track maintenance, such as FRA, ERA, OSHA, and DOT
Strong human relations, leadership and coordination skills
Ability to read and interpret documents such as safety rules, operating instructions, handbooks and procedure manuals
Ability to effectively present information in one-on-one and small group situations to customers, clients, and other employees of the organization
Ensures full compliance of safety rules, good housekeeping, and safe working conditions for all employees.
Assists with planning projects that will be conducted each year including job scopes that are within budget and determines the materials needed (regarding machines, manpower, crossings, ties, etc.)
Coordinates with local Roadmasters and Division Engineers to ensure production is maximized and slow orders are minimized
Oversees daily planning and operation of production gangs not limited to (2 tie gangs, 2 rail gang, 2 welding gang)
Supervises numerous gangs of contractors
Ensures curfew request are requested in a timely matter.
Conducts planning and scheduling of track material distribution for projects.
Provides safe and reliable tools and equipment for production gangs
