Job Description


POSITION SUMMARY: This position protects KCS employees and assets on assigned territory by providing security, general investigative, and other special services as requested.



-College degree in Criminal Justice or related field preferred

-Police certification in State of Louisiana preferred


-Minimum of three years law enforcement experience


-Knowledge of federal laws as well as local and state laws for assigned territory

-Strong oral and written communication skills

-Familiarity with train operations (e.g., train schedules, rail equipment, and national rail network)

-Basic computer skills

-Strong human relations skills and comfortable working with internal customers and outside agencies


-Conducts preventative patrolling of assigned territory and investigates crimes that result in the loss of KCS resources, such as burglary, shooting signals and vandalism

-Works with law enforcement agencies and courts to properly prosecute railroad cases

-Maintains records of inspections and investigations

-Briefs AVP Police and Special Services on all relevant situations on assigned territory

-Conducts preventative inspections of inbound and outbound trains to ensure that proper seal protection and locking devices are in place and the yard

-Promotes department security goals and enhances the department’s professional image by establishing and maintaining effective working relationships within and outside KCS (e.g., local, state, federal law enforcement agencies as well as other public safety agencies)

-Conducts surveillance and monitors all sensitive shipments by the government

Must be on-call 24 hours every day.
