Kansas City Southern Railway Mechanical Foreman in Shreveport, Louisiana
This position assists mechanics with diagnosing problems with engine, hydraulic, electrical and pneumatic issues. The supervisor orders parts and/or equipment repairs appropriately and efficiently and schedules equipment and material movements as needed. The position also coordinates with the Division Engineers and the Roadmasters to ensure completion of work.
High school degree/GED required
Course work in electric or mechanical operations preferred
5+ years of railroad work equipment experience
Experience using parts and service information in order to minimize equipment downtime.
Proficient in Microsoft Windows, specifically Word, Excel and PowerPoint. Proficient keyboarding skills required.
Online invoice processing system experience preferred
Ability to prioritize work projects
Technical and mechanical acumen

Ability to read and comprehend simple instructions, short correspondence, and memos
Ability to effectively present information in one-on-one and small group situations to customers, clients, and other employees of the organization
Ability to write simple sentences, paragraphs and correspondence
Ability to add and subtract two digit numbers and to multiply and divide with 10's and 100's
Ability to add, subtract, multiply, and divide in all units of measure, using whole numbers, common fractions, and decimals
Ability to apply concepts such as fractions, percentages, ratios, and proportions to practical situations
Ability to define problems, collect data, establish facts, and draw valid conclusions
Assist mechanics with diagnosing problems with engine, hydraulic, electrical and pneumatic issues. This includes reading schematics to guide mechanics through equipment problems.
Work with contractors on field repairs needed on KCS machines. Monitor repairs performed.
Contact local vendors for bids on major equipment repairs.
Assist mechanics with locating parts needed in the field.
Ship needed material to job sites timely.
Schedule equipment and material movement with truck drivers.
Monitor track panel locations and availability, in case of emergency derailments.
Schedule trucking of panels to derailment sights via KCS trucks or contract trucks.
Process invoices accordingly.
Provide back-up to other positions as needed.
